Ruth has experience acting for employers, contractors and subcontractors in construction, energy and engineering disputes across a range of sectors including large-scale infrastructure projects and both commercial and residential developments.
Ruth acts for international and domestic clients, specialising in dispute resolution. She has a particular focus on international arbitration and has acted for clients in arbitrations conducted under most major institutional rules.
Ruth has experience of the FIDIC and JCT forms of contract as well as bespoke contracts.
Specialist expertise
Examples of Ruth’s expertise include:
- acting for one of China’s largest contractors in ICC arbitration proceedings in respect of claims arising under amended FIDIC Red Book for a large-scale infrastructure project. Amounts in dispute exceeded €50 million;
- acting for an international contractor in an ICC arbitration commenced by a subcontractor in relation to a processing plant in Morocco;
- acting for a joint venture in ICSID arbitration proceedings concerning Treaty claims with amounts in dispute exceeding US$80 million;
- acting for the employer in ICC arbitration proceedings in relation to claims arising under amended FIDIC Pink Book in relation to a hospital. Amounts in dispute exceeding €25 million;
- acting for a joint venture including one of the largest construction companies in the US in relation to disputes arising out of a major metro development in the Middle East. ICC arbitration proceedings concerned several hundreds of millions of US dollars, and involved issues concerning change orders, delay, and design issues;
- acting for a building services specialist in relation to a £10 million dispute in the TCC concerning alleged defects and delay issues at an entertainment complex; and
- acting for a Kuwaiti project developer in LCIA arbitration proceedings concerning a range of disputes arising out of an oil and gas processing project in the Middle East.
