Philip specialises in the resolution of construction, engineering and energy disputes. Clients have specifically praised his clear, direct communication style, and his thorough and pragmatic advice.

He has acted for many parties in the supply chain, including employers, main contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and insolvency practitioners. He has experience in arbitration (ICC and LCIA), TCC litigation, adjudication, mediation, expert determination, and project advisory and pre-action stages. He advises on all standard forms of construction contract including JCT, NEC and FIDIC.

Philip has worked on a variety of types of projects spanning different sectors. He has particular experience with renewable energy projects (onshore and offshore wind and solar). He also has experience with commercial, residential and mixed-use development, data centres, non-renewable energy projects, engineering projects including ports and bridges, social infrastructure such as universities and hospitals, and hotels and leisure.

  • acting for the employer in High Court (TCC) proceedings relating to the refurbishment of a luxury hotel in London, defending extension of time and additional payment claims from the contractor;
  • advising the owner of several data centres in the UK in relation to claims against several parties including contractors and design consultants, relating to structural defect claims;
  • acting for an international contractor in FIDIC DAB proceedings against the employer, claiming significant extensions of time and resulting costs across multiple sections of a coal fired power plant in Africa;
  • acting for a Korean EPC contractor in an LCIA arbitration concerning construction of an oil and gas power and desalination plant in the Middle East, defending extension of time and additional payment claims from a subcontractor;
