Fenwick Elliott launches the Jon Miller Scholarship in partnership with Queen Mary University London
The scholarship will support students from low income backgrounds in East London, who are studying at the University’s School of Law
Fenwick Elliott is proud to announce the launch of the Jon Miller Scholarship, in loving memory of partner Jon Miller following his passing in September 2024.
The purpose of the Scholarship is to support wider access for those wishing to study law, in tribute to Jon, who read law at Queen Mary University London (QMUL) after leaving school at 16 and starting an apprenticeship in the construction industry. His unwavering humour, energy, plain-speaking and keen intellect made him an outstanding advisor to his clients, and our hope is to help others like Jon to forge their legal careers.
The Scholarship will provide students from lower-income backgrounds with financial support for each of their three years at QMUL. There will be one new scholarship available annually to a student entering their first year, with the firm supporting three students by the third year of the scheme. They must be from a household in one of the London Boroughs local to the University.
Karen Gidwani, Senior Partner at Fenwick Elliott, comments: “Jon was a huge figure in so many people’s lives, both personally and professionally, and it is a fitting tribute that we will be helping a new generation of lawyers to follow in his footsteps.
“He had an uncanny ability to make the law feel accessible, and to break complex issues down into straightforward advice. It is crucial for the industry that we continue to support students into the legal profession from all walks of life. It is a matter that is close to the firm’s heart, and that was close to Jon’s heart, and we are immensely proud to have launched the Scholarship in his memory and with the support of his family.
“We would like to thank everyone at the School of Law at Queen Mary University who has made this possible, and we would encourage all qualifying students to consider applying.”
